I've Already Had a Holiday

Padel, the spa, coffee and dictating shit to the computer. A day that feels rich to me, and a question about what that actually costs.

Animated Karan relaxes with a coffee on a wooden sauna bench inside an open round bank vault.

I wake up, go to David Lloyd, play padel, then go into the spa.

Sauna. A cold plunge that isn’t that good. Maybe a jacuzzi.

I’ve already had a holiday in the morning.

That’s the bit that interests me when I think about being rich. What do I actually enjoy, and what would it cost to have a really good version of that in my normal day?

Then I have a nice coffee, open the laptop, get my microphone out and start dictating shit to the computer. Dictate to agents. Sometimes work with teammates, sometimes not.

Some days it’s four hours. Some days six or eight. I don’t really count the hours. I go with my energy, go with my flow.

Go home, watch some shit on TV, explore a few things I’m curious about.

That’s a day that feels rich to me.

When I ask myself what I spend disproportionately on, I don’t actually come up with many things. But what would I happily spend very little on?

Clothes. Furniture. Holidays, personally.

I don’t know. What do normal people spend on?

But if I know which things I enjoy, why not spend more on those and less on the others?

If you love technology, have nice technology. If you love holidays, spend on holidays. If cars aren’t your thing, drive a very old second-hand car. Who gives a damn?

The question is what you enjoy. What are the goods and services you disproportionately enjoy, once keeping up with the Joneses is out of it?

There’s still some of that status stuff in me. Much less than there used to be. Not zero.

And I do wonder about the security part. How much of wanting more money is security, and how much is a psychological security blanket? You can’t take it with you. It’s a real question.

But if the basic needs are covered, and I can have a good version of the things I most enjoy, month after month, how much money does that actually require?

Maybe I’m oversimplifying it.

I do quite like the padel, the spa, the coffee and dictating shit to the computer, though.

That’s it. It’s not bad.
